  2. L5N5LD: What are these codes such as “L5N5LD” on (the right-top of) this paragraph? They are my invention, part of next-generation Wikipedia I'm architecting. Each is an ID to uniquely & permanently name, point-to, link-to, find, and timestamp most anything:

    1. L5TM6L: Each gives a unique & permanent ID to most-every paragraph, section, & document. And many are also an HTML-anchor to the item (to the start of that item within the web page it's on); for instance, the URL ending with “#L5TM6L” (click it!) sends you this paragraph.
L6SVUW: How to find an ID, say if a link containing an ID is broken: Find the ID (it could be in the name of the reference/link as “L5TM6L: ...”, or in the URL bookmark as “...#L5TM6L”, or in the URL filename as “.../l5tm6l.html...”) then just search for it (in these cases, search for “L5TM6L”): if you know it's a place is within the present web page, use your web browser's find (Ctrl-F); otherwise use say Google Search (yes, you can find the item even if it has been renamed and/or moved to another website!).

    2. L5TM9Q: Each is also a timestamp, encoding the date & time of the ID's creation which typically tells when its item was first spoken/written/created: I will be publishing a decoder.

Meetup.com/BeyondBasecamp Car Camping Parties KTR28Z

-2009.11.27pst0448: Want to join in with hundreds of local young adults massively partying out in the wilderness all weekend? :-)
The LA-centered group http://Meetup.com/BeyondBasecamp (notably it's head organizer Frank) puts on such car camping parties about every 3 months which are outstanding!  In fact a number of attendees seem to consider them to be the best event on Meetup.com!  These parties regularly draw attendees from as far as San Diego & Las Vegas!  From attending one (Caliente 2009.08.1-2) I describe them  “a tiny Burning Man (from what I’ve heard & read of Burning Man as I’ve not been yet):
  1. Safe & not pushy (never seen anyone hurt anyone else; plus since everyone’s camping there’s no drinking & driving) (2009 Caliente photo)
  2. Seemingly like Burning Man:
    1. Camping out with loads of heavily partying young adults.  Everyone sleeps in a combination of tents, cars, motorhomes (if they bring one), cabins (if they buy one), or just outdoors.
    2. Evening: fires & drumming circles
    3. Night time: Rock music, drinking, & outdoor dancing until ~4am.  This is the main event.
      Fancy lighting effects
(psychedelic, rave, & Christmas lighting plus fire effects)
    4. Romance & Sex (in tents) including (2009 Caliente photo) both couples who came together plus some casual and mild “Girls Gone Wild”. It some of the women are delightfully assertive/"aggressive" when they spot whom they want, and it seems some of the gals don’t bring tents or place to stay and just find a nice guy with a place to “nest up” with :-)
    5. Highly liberal
  3. Unlike Burning Man,
    1. “Smaller”: “only” 100 to 500 partying young adults instead of 50,000.
    2. 1/10th the cost: ~$25/person instead of ~$250.
    3. Closer: 1 to 3 hour drive (outside the metropolis) instead of ~15 hour (another state)
    4. Local people you’ll probably see again (as on Meetup)
    5. Shorter: 2 to 3 days (2 or 3-day weekend) instead of 1 week.
    6. More frequent: about every 3 months instead of once per year
    7. Easier: car camping with showers & toilets & sometimes electricity instead of being self-reliant.
    8. Does NOT seem to be clothing optional.
  4. Daytime: sleeping and yoga and hiking or water sports or biking or sometimes rock climbing
  5. Every occurrance is posted on multiple Meetup groups:  the main listing on http://Meetup.com/BeyondBasecamp (which is only visible to members) plus copies on several related groups (most/all of which are public).  Generally the event description is identical but unique to each is everything else (the RSVP list plus member comments plus Message Board posts); so for instance, when searching for carpool partners, you generally have to look thru all of them.  All event listings share the same Meetup venue entry so by going to that entry you can see all the other event listings.
  6. One can show up for any portion of the event.
  7. The event generally ends around 2pm on the last day pf the holiday or weekend (such as on Sunday if Monday is a work-day)
  8. Samples:
    1. KTR875:2009 Caliente” (photo)
    2. KTR4DL:  “2009 Desert Moonlight” (huge Thanksgiving Weekend camping party In Joshua Tree!)
      1. Event URLs
(These are everything from the from the venue URL (as Beyond Basecamp’s); since I’ve found no venue URLs which are public (you must be a member to see) I’ve copied the entire listing all this data here. They all contain identical descriptions but the RSVP list and member comments are unique to each)
        From most RSVP YESes:
        1. PRIVATE: “Joshua Tree Camping Bash!  of BEYOND BASECAMP, your adventure party crew! with 330 Yes / 0 Maybe RSVPs”; venue URL is private. THIS IS THE MAIN/HOST ONE.
        2. Public: “Joshua Tree - Thanksgiving weekend Camping Bash of Los Adventure X  with 55 Yes / 0 Maybe RSVPs”; don’t know venue URL.
        3. Public: “Joshua Tree - Thanksgiving weekend Camping Bash of The Los Angeles Outdoor Adventurers Meetup Group with 48 Yes / 0 Maybe RSVPs”; venue J-Tree Lake campground is private.
        4. Public: “Joshua Tree - Thanksgiving weekend Camping Bash of LA's Rock Climbing Group with 37 Yes / 0 Maybe RSVPs”
        5. Public or private: “Joshua Tree - Thanksgiving weekend Camping Bash! of Champagne Campers: The Belair Bivouac Society with 22 Yes / 0 Maybe RSVPs” – ONLY ONE still accepting RSVPs (a waiting list)! (2009 Caliente photo)
      2. Totaling up the RSVP’s, there’s about 510 people who have RSVP’d YES plus a few waiting lists.  I expect 200 to 500 attending.
      3. The venue is Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground , maps.google entry ; the Meetup venue entries for these are above.

      4. The event opens 2009.11.27(Fri)1000 and closes 29(Sun)1400 but one can come for any period in-between.  Also it recommended on the way up else the way back one attends  http://dhsspa.com maps.google entry.
  9. Beyond Basecamp also hosts camping, hiking, & biking outings which require more outdoors skills.  It's head organizer Frank also runs http://BeyondBasecamp.com which rents & sells camping equipment.
  10. If you join one of these groups or events because of this writeup, please let me know! (as post a comment here) including your Meetup.com profile link.
  11. And feel free to share the link to this page (for instance, give the link to friends you want invite) ,especially since it's the only public summary of these unique parties that I've found.
